Kentucky Golf

Kentucky is known for Bluegrass, bourbon, beautiful mountains and thoroughbreds. And, now with over 200 public and semi-private golf courses and new ones being built everyday, Kentucky has quickly become known for its beautifully designed golf courses.

World renowned golf course architects, namely Mike Hurdzan, Arthur Hills, Pete and P.B Dye have stamped their signature on several Kentucky courses. Local architects including Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame member Jack Ridge and Danny McQueen continue to develop new ones. From the north to the south to the east and west golfers can find and enjoy a different look at each course whether its hills, valleys, or flat land. For an example StoneCrest in Prestonsburg was built on top of an old coal mine, The Summit in Owensboro built just off the Ohio River and PGA professional Kenny Perry's Country Creek course was constructed on the flat land of Franklin in Simpson County.

The state has also taken on a new focus within its Kentucky State Park system, golf now has become a larger part of the state's recreational reputation.  With 21 state park golf courses, there is sure to be something for everyone. Six Signature Series courses are located in each region of the state and offer exciting championship play amid the pastoral beauty of the "nation's finest" park system. Four of the Signature Series courses -- Grayson Lake, Pine Mountain, Dale Hollow and Yatesville Lake -- have received national awards from Golf Digest as "Best New Affordable Public Courses."
